FAQ: How do I duplicate a document?

Zudello provides a Duplicate action that allows you to create an exact copy of an existing document.

When to Use:

  • Creating a new document that is very similar to an existing one, saving data entry time.
  • Creating a template or baseline document.
  • As part of a "Convert with Duplicate" workflow where you want to keep the original document and create a new one of different type based on it.

How to Duplicate:

  1. Open the Source Document: Navigate to and open the document you want to copy.
  2. Locate Action: Click the More Actions (...) menu at the top right of the document viewer.
  3. Select Duplicate: Click the Duplicate option.
    • (Example: Duplicate action - image temporarily unavailable)
  4. Confirm (If Prompted): You may need to confirm the action.

Outcome:

  • Zudello creates a new document record in the same Module and Submodule.
  • The new document is an exact copy of the original at the time of duplication, including header data, line items, coding, notes, etc.
  • The new document typically starts in the default "create" status for that Document Type (often Draft or User Review).
  • The original document remains unchanged.
  • The new document will have its own unique UUID and likely its own Document Number (especially if auto-numbering is enabled).

Permissions:

  • Duplicating a document requires the {Module}:{Submodule}#CREATE permission, as it involves creating a new record.
