Section 3: Configure Dependencies

Dependencies create smart links between coding fields (dimensions). When a user selects a value in one field (the "controlling" field), Zudello automatically filters the options available in another field (the "dependent" field) to only show valid combinations.

Use Case Example: If a user selects "Subsidiary A", the "Location" drop-down should only show locations belonging to Subsidiary A.

Steps (Manual Configuration Example: Location depends on Subsidiary):

  1. Navigate to Dependent Dimension Settings:
    • Click the company menu (top right) > Settings.
    • Scroll down and click on the dependent dimension (e.g., Location) in the left sidebar.
  2. Select Dimension Value: Find and click on a specific value within the dependent dimension that you want to link (e.g., the "Sydney Office" location).
  3. Access Dependencies: Click the dependencies icon (often looks like linked chains or similar) at the top right of the dimension value modal.
  4. Add Dependency: Click Add.
  5. Define Relationship:
    • Depends on: Select the controlling dimension (e.g., Subsidiary).
    • Resources: Select the specific value(s) from the controlling dimension that this dependent value is linked to (e.g., select "Subsidiary A"). You might be able to select multiple controlling values if applicable.
  6. Save Dependency: Click Save within the dependencies pop-up/section.
  7. Repeat: Repeat steps 2-6 for all other values in the dependent dimension (e.g., configure the "Melbourne Office" location to depend on "Subsidiary B").
  8. Test: Open a document, select a value in the controlling field (e.g., select "Subsidiary A"), then click the dependent field (e.g., "Location") and verify that only the linked options (e.g., only "Sydney Office") appear in the drop-down. Test different combinations.

ERP Integration Note: If your ERP manages these relationships, dependencies might be configured automatically when dimension data is synced. Check with your implementation contact.
