Troubleshooting: View/Layout/Sort Settings Not Saving

Problem

Your preferred settings for viewing documents within a submodule (e.g., List vs. Board vs. Table layout, sorting by Date Issued vs. Document Number) are not being saved correctly. When you navigate away and return, or log out and log back in, the view reverts to a default setting instead of your last used preference.

Common Causes

  1. Browser Cache/Cookies: Outdated or corrupted browser data can interfere with saving user preferences.
  2. Browser Extensions: Certain browser extensions (especially privacy blockers or script managers) might prevent Zudello from saving settings to local storage.
  3. Local Storage Issues: The browser's local storage might be full, disabled, or corrupted.
  4. Incognito/Private Browsing: Settings are generally not saved persistently when using incognito or private browsing modes.
  5. UI Glitch (Less Common): A temporary bug in the Zudello front-end might prevent settings from saving correctly.
  6. Permissions (Unlikely): While highly unlikely for view settings, underlying permission issues could theoretically cause unexpected UI behaviour.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Hard Refresh: Perform a hard refresh of the Zudello page in your browser (usually Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows/Linux, Cmd+Shift+R on Mac). Set your preferred view/sort again and see if it persists after navigating away and back.
  2. Clear Browser Cache and Cookies:
    • Log out of Zudello.
    • Clear your browser's cache and cookies (refer to your browser's help documentation for specific steps).
    • Log back into Zudello.
    • Set your preferred view/sort settings again in a specific submodule.
    • Navigate away and back, or log out and in again. Does the setting persist now?
  3. Try Incognito/Private Window: Open Zudello in an incognito or private browser window. Log in and set your preferences. Do they persist within that session (navigating between submodules)? Note that they likely won't persist after closing the incognito window, but this test helps rule out extension interference.
  4. Disable Browser Extensions: Temporarily disable all browser extensions, then restart your browser and log into Zudello. Set your preferences. If they now save correctly, re-enable extensions one by one to identify the conflicting one.
  5. Try a Different Browser: Log into Zudello using a different web browser (e.g., Chrome if you usually use Edge, or vice-versa). Does the setting save correctly in the other browser? This helps isolate browser-specific issues.
  6. Check Browser Local Storage Settings: Ensure your browser is configured to allow sites to save data locally (this is usually the default).
