Troubleshooting: Budget Card Not Displaying Correct Information
Problem
When clicking the Budget icon on a transaction document, the Budget Card View:
- Does not appear or is empty.
- Appears but shows incorrect figures (Budget Amount, Allocated, Remaining) or doesn't reflect the current transaction's impact.
Common Causes
- Transaction Not Linked to Budget: The most common cause. The transaction lines are not coded with the correct dimension combination to match any active Budget Line, or the transaction date falls outside the budget period. See Transaction Not Impacting Budget Correctly.
- Budget Not Active: The relevant Budget record is not in an Active status. The card only displays data for active budgets.
- Incorrect Budget Configuration: Errors in the Budget record itself (wrong dimensions, incorrect period/interval, incorrect amounts on budget lines).
- Data Not Refreshed: Changes were made to transaction coding or budget configuration, but the card view hasn't updated with the latest calculations.
- Permissions: The user lacks the necessary permissions to view budget information (though typically view access is granted broadly if the module is enabled).
- Calculation Errors: Underlying issues with how budget amounts (Allocated, Remaining, Spend Categories) are being calculated. See Incorrect Budget Calculation.
- UI Glitch: A temporary front-end display issue.
Troubleshooting Steps
- Verify Transaction Coding and Date:
- Open the transaction document.
- Check the coding (dimensions) on each relevant line item. Does it exactly match the dimensions configured on an Active Budget Line?
- Check the transaction
date_issued
. Does it fall within the Budget Period of the expected Budget Line? - Correct coding/dates if necessary and Save.
- Verify Budget Status:
- Navigate to Budgets > Budgets.
- Find the Budget you expect the transaction to impact. Is its status Active?
- Verify Budget Configuration:
- Open the Active Budget record.
- Check the configured Budget Dimensions in the header.
- Find the specific Budget Line matching the transaction's coding. Are the dimension values correct? Is the Amount entered correctly for the relevant period?
- Check the Budget Period and Interval.
- Check the Evaluate Budget As setting (Current, Rolling, Total).
- Refresh/Recalculate:
- After making any corrections, Save the changes.
- On the transaction, close and reopen the Budget Card View.
- Perform a hard refresh of the browser (Ctrl+Shift+R or Cmd+Shift+R).
- Consider using Apply Trained Rules (Using Apply Trained Rules) on the transaction to force backend recalculations.
- Check Permissions: Confirm with your administrator that you have permissions to view Budgets (e.g.,
BUDGETS:BUDGET#VIEW
