Configuring ABN Validation

Ensure the accuracy of supplier information by automatically validating their Australian Business Number (ABN) against the official Australian Business Register (ABR). This guide explains how to enable and use the ABN validation extension in Zudello.

Best practices​

  • Ensure the tax_number field is correctly populated on your Supplier records in Zudello.
  • Regularly review supplier records to keep ABNs up-to-date.
  • Use this validation as part of your supplier onboarding or review process.

Understanding ABN Validation​

The "Check Contact ABN" extension adds a validation check next to the supplier's tax number field on transaction documents. When enabled, it performs the following actions:

  1. Retrieves the tax_number stored against the matched Supplier record in Zudello.
  2. Calls the Australian Business Register (ABR) API to validate this ABN.
  3. Displays an icon indicating the validation status (e.g., valid, invalid, not found).

Important Notes:

  • This validation uses the tax_number stored in the Supplier record, not the ABN extracted directly from the document image.
  • The validation only runs if the transaction has a tax amount greater than zero (tax > 0).
  • Currently, this extension functions on transaction documents (like Invoices) but does not work directly within the Relationships module Supplier records page.

Enabling the Extension​

ABN Validation is configured per Document Type:

  1. Navigate to Settings via the company menu.
  2. Click Document Types in the left sidebar.
  3. Select the Document Type where you want ABN validation (e.g., Purchase Invoice).
  4. Click Edit.
  5. Go to the Extensions tab.
  6. Find the Check Contact ABN extension in the list.
  7. Turn on the toggle to enable the extension.
  8. Click Update to save the changes.

Repeat these steps for any other relevant Document Types.

User Experience​

Once enabled, users processing documents will see a validation icon next to the supplier's tax number field (if displayed on the form). Hovering over this icon will provide details about the ABN's status according to the ABR lookup. This provides an immediate check on the validity of the supplier's registered details.
